Due to a new Texas law called the Texas App Store Accountability Act (TASAA), Apple and Google are updating how apps can be downloaded across the U.S. This law requires app stores to verify a user’s age and obtain parental consent for anyone under 18 before they can download an app. To ensure smooth access to our employee app and reduce unnecessary verification steps, we are working with our app partners to update our iOS App Store age rating to 13+, matching the Android version.
Why 13+? You may notice TASAA applies to all users under 18, so why not set the rating to 18+? Because the age rating controls how the app store categorizes the app — not who is allowed to use it. Updating our rating from 4+ to 13+:
- Signals that the app is not designed for young children
- Helps avoid stricter parental-consent workflows for ages 4–12
- Keeps the employee download experience smoother
- Aligns iOS and Android ratings for consistency
TASAA age-verification rules still apply to anyone under 18, and those checks are handled automatically by Apple and Google. Although TASAA is a Texas-specific law, Apple and Google may apply parts of the new age-verification experience more broadly so they can maintain a consistent process across states. Because of this, some users outside Texas may also notice a slightly different app-download flow. There is no action required from you at this time. We’re sharing this update so you’re aware of these upcoming changes.
