When creating or updating a campaign, it’s important to understand how edits are saved and how they appear in test emails. Certain actions—like leaving unsaved changes in the editor, editing in multiple tabs, or having multiple users edit at the same time—can lead to discrepancies between what you see in the draft, in test emails, and in the final published campaign. This article outlines best practices to ensure your changes are properly saved and accurately reflected throughout the campaign creation process.
Before You Start
This article assumes you are signed in to Creator Studio and have a role with permissions to edit and/or publish campaigns. For best practices for and guidance on editing campaigns post-publish, refer to Editing Published Campaigns. And to learn about campaign publishing permissions, take a look at Campaign Publishing Permissions.
Best Practices
Save Campaigns Before Closing the Editor
When editing a campaign, unsaved changes to the content body will appear in test emails but will not be saved or visible when the campaign is reopened. This happens because test emails can reflect unsaved edits, but those edits are not committed to the published campaign unless you manually save them or allow enough time for the campaign to auto-save. If the editor is closed before saving, the changes are lost.
Before closing or publishing a campaign, make sure to manually click Save after editing the content body. Avoid sending test emails until after your changes are saved, and verify that both the campaign and the test email reflect the intended published content.
Edit Campaigns in a Single Tab
If you have the same campaign open in multiple tabs, any edits or saves made in one tab can override changes made in another. To avoid this, we recommend opening and editing the campaign in only one tab at a time.
Avoid Real-Time Editing Collaboration
Similarly to having a campaign open in multiple tabs, if multiple users work on the same campaign at the same time, your changes may be overwritten by someone else’s edits. We advise against real-time collaboration in the editor and recommend establishing a clear handoff process or workflow for campaign editing.
