Overview
Customers sometimes report that engagement icons such as like and comment are missing when viewing microapps. This is expected behavior. Microapps always show share and translate (if enabled for the post), but additional engagement options only appear when the user is signed in.
This article explains why some icons are hidden, what is always available, and how to encourage user login so that engagement is properly captured.
Which Engagement Icons Are Displayed
Always Displayed (if enabled for the post):
Share
Translate
Displayed Only for Signed-In Users:
Like
Comment

Why Engagement Icons May Appear Missing
Users who view microapps anonymously will only see share and translate.
Since they are not logged in, engagement options tied to their profile (likes, comments) cannot be shown.
Recommendations to Improve Engagement
1. Enable SSO Autologin (Recommended)
Ensures users are automatically directed to your SSO provider instead of needing to click to sign in.
If already authenticated, users are seamlessly logged in and returned to the microapp.
Requirements for SSO Autologin:
Must use Restricted or Trusted auth mode.
Login button and login card must both be hidden.
SSO must be the only authentication method.
Contact Firstup Support or your Customer Success Manager (CSM) to request activation.
2. Make Login More Visible (if autologin is not available)
Use Restricted or Trusted auth mode with a login button at the top of the feed.
Place a login card between content to encourage users to authenticate before engaging.
3. Educate Users on Benefits of Login
Let employees know that signing in unlocks the ability to like and comment on posts.
Position login as the way to fully participate in the community, not just view content.
Key Takeaways
To improve engagement:
Use Restricted or Trusted auth mode.
Enable SSO Autologin if eligible.
Otherwise, use visible login prompts to encourage sign-in.
Remind users that logging in unlocks full interaction features.
