We generally recommend using video blocks for videos, as the video card promotes engagement with the play icon. However, sometimes you want more context (maybe pages of context!) around the video - in this case, you can embed a video in an article.
How to Embed a Video in an Article
There are a few ways you can embed a video into an article: by adding a video URL to a link block or embedding a video iFrame.
Insert Video URL from YouTube or Vimeo into a Link Block
If your video is hosted on YouTube or Vimeo, you can embed the video into an article using just the plain URL.
- Sign in to Studio as an Administrator or Community Manager.
- Click Create.
- Select the simple Article template.
- Hover over the block and click the + sign to add a link block to your article.
- Hover over the link block and select the Edit icon.
- Click the link block to edit the block.
- Add the video URL, edit the description and call to action.
- Click Apply to save your link edits and click Apply again to return to the Compose page.
- On the Compose page, you can now edit the Style and Cover, as well as send an email Preview of the article, or view the preview for your desired channel/s.
- Complete your campaign, including all of the Orchestrate settings, and Publish.
What Members See
Web Experience
The article will appear under a content card in one of the feed views in the web experience.
Clicking on the content card will immediately open the article in a new view. In this view, you can read the article, access the video, bookmark the article, and add likes. Clicking on the video link will open the video in the externally linked video platform. From this view, you can also interact with the comments and share the article (if these features are enabled in Orchestration).
Mobile App
Articles also appear under a content card in one of the feed views in the mobile app experience.
Tapping on the content card will open a new view. In this view, you can read the article, access the video, bookmark the article, and add likes. Tapping on the video link will open the video in the externally linked video platform. From this view, you can also interact with the comments and share the article (if these features are enabled in Orchestration).
Email
Articles will appear in email similar to how they appear in the view in the web experience. Clicking on the video link will open the video in the externally linked video platform.
Insert Embed Codes from Public Video Host into an iFrame Block
If the video is hosted on a publicly accessible website like YouTube, Vimeo, Wistia, or Kaltura, you can copy the embed code from those websites. For privacy, hosts like YouTube have an "Unlisted" setting so that the public can't search for your video and only users with the URL can watch the video. However you configure the video, it must be accessible without entering credentials in order to work after embedding in a Firstup article.
Once you've made your video and uploaded it to a site like Vimeo or YouTube, grab the URL for the video by clicking the "Share" option under the video and then choose the "Embed" option.
For example, the following iframe code will embed a video with 100% width and a height of 500 pixels (a comfortable size). To embed the video using this exact code, all you need to update is the <URL>:
<iframe allowfullscreen="" width="100%" height="500px" src="<URL>"frameborder="0"></iframe>
- Sign in to Studio as an Administrator or Community Manager.
- Click Create.
- Select the simple Article template.
- Hover over the block and click the + sign to access the block library.
- Select the Code block and click Use Block.
- Hover over the code block and select the Code View icon.
- Update the embed code and select the Code view icon again.
- On the Compose page, you can now edit the Style and Cover, as well as send an email Preview of the article, or view the preview for your desired channel/s.
- Complete your campaign, including all of the Orchestrate settings, and Publish.
