This article outlines the recommended specifications for images, GIFs, videos, and documents for upload in Creator Studio. For user-generated content specifications, refer to this article. And for feed card character count specifications, check out this article. If you are looking for specifications about images that impact the look and feel of your community, i.e. branding, please check out the Branding Assets Glossary.
All content is delivered through our global edge cache, optimizing for edge network speeds. Bandwidth becomes a consideration primarily if you upload or embed a large volume of videos or live streams. To manage this, you can target content to smaller audiences in batches, preventing simultaneous access by all users.
Note: There are no overall storage limits for the assets you upload or create on the platform. Instead, limits apply to individual asset types, such as images, MP4s, and documents.
Image Files
Keep any key imagery (faces, text) within the central 2/3 of the image.
- Cover images - As these are subject to some cropping, aim for a 16:9 landscape ratio (1920x1080 pixels), as this will tend to look the best across channels (such as email, web, or mobile). Please see the article on optimizing image appearance for more details.
- Image blocks - We support image files in JPG or PNG format with a file size of up to 10 MB. Please ensure your file is smaller than 10 MB for a successful upload. Depending on the ratio of the image block, you may aim for a 16:9 landscape ratio (1920x1080 pixels) or square (400x400 pixels). And banner images should be at least 800 pixels wide (variable height). Note that nothing, including image blocks, will be cropped in the “full view” of the campaign. So any numbers we cite, like 400 pixels for half-width, 800 pixels for full-width, only apply to resolution. An error message Parsing response failed will show if the image is not within our content specifications.
- Topic thumbnails - The recommended ratio is 1:1.1 (For example: 200x220 pixels, 400x440 pixels, 800x880 pixels, or 1600x1720 pixels)
- Knowledge Hub (premium feature) topic thumbnails - We recommend a 1:1 ratio for optimal display, as well as a cover image size of 1128x185 pixels.
Note: We recommend a 16:9 image ratio, at least 1920 pixels wide and 1080 pixels tall for user-generated content images (image posts submitted via the member experience).
Images are compressed when they are uploaded, which may result in a small reduction in image quality for JPG format images. PNG images benefit from lossless compression, meaning there will be no loss of image quality when a PNG image is uploaded.
GIF Files
Generally, you can upload or insert GIF files wherever you can upload or insert image files. We have found that GIF files embedded in the body of article campaigns tend to work across the platforms (Creator Studio, web experience, mobile app). However, we have found that GIF files that are the header/cover image of a campaign fail to load for users in their feed. Therefore, due to a combination of file sizes and network issues, we cannot assure that a GIF will load for all users.
Note: GIFs are limited to 500 megapixels total across all frames. If a GIF exceeds this limit, frames beyond the 500-megapixel threshold will be cut off. For example, a GIF with 100 frames at 5 megapixels each would reach this limit.
Videos
We support uploading MOV, MP4, and AVI video formats in Creator Studio. When uploading a video, the file should be smaller than 500 MB, with a max resolution of [8000]x[4500]. Optimizing or compressing the video to a smaller size will speed up the upload and processing. Please keep your mobile app users in mind—larger files will be hard to load over some data connections.
Note: Depending on your community, there may be a video size limit of 300MB for user-generated content (video posts submitted via the member experience).
Documents
Documents up to 100 MB can be uploaded and attached to campaigns. Note that as hosted solution, Firstup does not track storage, CPU, or memory usage.
