Adding alt text to your images improves accessibility for visually impaired users. Alt text is used by third-party software to describe your images, making sure the message is conveyed. 

How to Add Alt Text to Images

1. Add an image to your campaign.
2. From the Content panel, you can link your image to a URL and add alt text.
   
   

Guidelines for Alt Text Descriptions 

Describe the image's purpose, not its appearance. 

Focus on the image's function or the message it conveys, not just its visual details. 

For example, if your image is a bar chart showing your company's sales growth, describe this in the alt text.

Keep it concise 

Avoid long, detailed descriptions. Aim for 1 to 2 short sentences. For complex images, include a summary in the alt text and link to a longer description elsewhere if needed.

Use empty alt text for decorative images

If the image doesn't add meaningful content, do not include alt text. This tells screen-reading software to ignore the image, reducing noise for the user. 

Avoid repetition

Don't repeat information already provided in the surrounding text. For example, if a caption already explains the image, there is no need to include alt text with the same or similar information. 

Context matters

Tailor the alt text based on the image's context in the page. For example, on a product page, a pair of shoes may be described as black running shoes. Whereas in a design manual, an example of high-contrast product photography. 

Avoid including the object

Don't include "image of", "picture of", etc. in your description. Screen-reading software already knows it's an image. Don't use Image of a black cat on a wall, use Black cat on a wall. 

Buttons and image links

Ensure the alt text describes the action, not just the image. For example, a submit button should include the alt text Submit your form. 

Include any contained text in an image 

If an image contains text, include that text in the alt description unless it's decorative. For example, an image of a flag with 50% off sale written on it should include up to 50% off sale in the alt description.
