Notification Types
To reduce clutter in the Notification Center, there are only 2 types of notifications: Messages and Activity.
Message: A message is a notification directly from a Creator Studio creator. Messages can be configured by the creator within Creator Studio (direct delivery, retargeting, etc.) or generated by a journey.
-
Initial welcome - Generated when a user is first created in Creator Studio.
-
Content notifications - Generated when a Creator Studio creator selects Notification Center as a delivery channel in Deliver. You can also customize the Notification Center title that will be linked to your campaign, including personalization variables. If you choose not to customize the title, the default title will be displayed: Communication from <Community Name>.
-
Needs Attention - Alerts you to items that need your attention (critical, acknowledgment, polls, content approval).
Activity: Activity notifications are associated with posts you have created and with other activities within the community.
- Topics auto-followed
- @mentions in post
- Views on your posts (for both Studio content and user-generated content that you’ve published and set yourself as the author for)
- Third-party integration activity
- New featured posts
- Likes on your comments
- Likes on your comment replies
- Replies to your comments
- Comments on your posts
- Likes on your posts
- @mentions in comments
Tasks
Tasks are items that have been labeled as needing attention due to:
- being prioritized as critical within campaign delivery
- content flagged as needing acknowledgment
- a notification marked as important
Banner
If you have tasks, a banner that cannot be dismissed will appear in the Notification Center. The banner will indicate how many tasks you have remaining. Once a task is completed (either by reading the content, acknowledging the content, or approving the content), the banner’s count will decrease. Once there are no remaining tasks, the banner will disappear.
Indicators
Notifications that require attention will be highlighted with an Action Required label, as well as labels that provide additional context on the required action:
- Critical content will display Must Read
- Content needing acknowledgment will display Acknowledge Content
- Content needing approval will display Content Approval
Mark as Important
This setting, located on the Deliver page in Creator Studio, allows Creator Studio users to emphasize a notification without impacting delivery. When a notification is marked as important, it will include an Important label. After reading, the label will disappear.
Self Organization
Filter, archive, and prioritize your notifications, focusing only on what matters most:
-
Mark items as read or unread - You can easily keep track of the items you want to look at again by marking them as unread or read if you’ve already seen them.
-
Archive notifications - Clear out the clutter by archiving old notifications. This does not delete them and notifications remain searchable for easy findability. If notifications are not archived, they will remain in the notifications list. Messages are retained for all time and activities for 12 months.
Note: Notifications marked as 'Important' or with an 'Action Required' label cannot be archived until the content is read and/or the required action is taken.
-
Filter notifications - Reduce the noise by filtering notifications that need your attention or simply by filtering down to the items you have not seen yet. You can filter by Action Required, Important, Read, and Unread.
FAQ
Member Experience Users
Do unread notifications go away?
No. When you click on a notification to read the content, we mark it as unread (remove highlighting and bolding) but keep it within the Notification Center. You can choose to archive the notification to remove it from the list.
Is the Notification Center replacing Assistant?
Yes. Instead of Assistant, the new delivery channel will be to Notification Center. Assistant will now serve as a place to search Shortcuts and interact with productivity integrations.
How long will notifications be retained?
Activity notifications will be retained for 1 year, but messages will be retained indefinitely.
If a user views an author’s content on Day 1, and the author clears that notification, but the same user views it again on Day 2, would the author get a second notification that the same user has viewed their content again?
Yes, the author would receive a second notification. Each time the user interacts with a notification (such as reading it), a new notification is triggered. This captures activity since the last interaction, even if the content was already seen. This tracking lasts for 7 days but stops after that for views. However, likes and comments remain visible indefinitely.
Can I sort my notifications by date?
By default, notifications are sorted by newest to oldest.
If you receive a push notification, will it still take you to the post or to the Notification Center?
It will still take you to the post. The Notification Center is replacing the section in Assistant, which was previously where web experience notifications were accessed.
Will the name of the person who liked my post be anonymized?
Yes, in the notification, but you can see who liked it in the post's reactions.
Creator Studio Users
If the user is set to auto-follow, will they still receive a notification about a new post if you don't use direct delivery?
No, notifications will only be published when Notification Center is used as a delivery channel.
Can we no longer deliver content only via push notification?
No, you will also have to have Notification Center enabled to send a push. This is because if the user's device settings for notifications are off or the user clears the notification and For You is not enabled, the messages still need a place to "live."
If you select Notification Center and For You, will the post be displayed in For You AND also show in the Notification Center?
Yes, the post will be displayed in For You, and the notification for it will appear in the Notification Center.
Is the For You section going away in the web experience?
For You can remain if you choose; however, you may choose to disable For You, given that these messages have a first-class home now.
If I select both Email and Notification Center as Direct Delivery channels in Deliver, will the system send an email to all audiences or select the best way of reaching them?
Intelligent Delivery will decide the best way to reach each user. However, if Engagement Boost is turned off and multiple channels are selected, a notification will be sent to each selected channel.
Who receives notifications for posts published as an author alias?
The author alias will not receive notifications; only the publisher will see notifications.
Will Recommended Posts appear in the Notification Center?
Recommended Posts are not included in the Notification Center and will no longer appear in Assistant either. This is because the user can now search all previous notifications, so anything previously sent to them can be found through their own exploration. The power is with the publisher to ensure they select Notification Center as a delivery channel; that way, the user will always get notified and be able to search for it.
